posture is motion -- or -- move it or lose it

Outside of the enormous benefits of massage therapy, I am a huge believer in bodyweight exercise and stretching. Being in control of the movements and movement potentials of your own body is essential for health: mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Inherent in this type of exercise is the need for both strength and flexibility...better yet, Strong Flexibility or being Flexibly Strong.

Developing control and awareness at all points in your body's range of motion requires deep stabilization and a principle of non-isolation.

This is Inside-Out strength. It is the foundation of good movement.

Treat your body as a strong and adaptable unit rather than as a multitude of autonomous muscles and watch your strength, balance, body awareness, flexibility, adaptability, and resistance to injury improve.

Videos

Here are a few videos featuring great movement and some ideas for people trying to find something new inside and outside of the gym.

Be careful with any new regime, technique, movement, or idea. Don't push yourself beyond your capabilities and never work through pain!

I found these online while looking for some new ideas for my home workouts. I suggest a passive and/or active hang and the squat routine as exercises you can do every day. Suggestion: try the squat routine 1x/day for a week.

Websites

Here are some helpful websites.

The Neuro Orthodpaedic Institute is an amazing resource for people dealing with pain, chronic or acute. This is appropriate for both patients and health care workers as a learning and healing tool.

Man vs Weight is a fantastic website that has an enormous database of bodyweight exercises with detailed explanations and videos. If you are looking for exercises/skill for a particular muscle group, this site has drop down, searchable movements to make your life easier.

There are also good articles and tutorials for calisthenic skills.
